The Opportunity

As business owners at Hatch Duo, we’re always looking to optimize our processes. While analyzing our project workflow, we realized a significant amount of time was spent searching Pinterest and Google for the perfect images to capture the right feeling for each project. In 2023, with the rise of AI, we saw an opportunity to streamline moodboarding—a crucial yet time-consuming part of our design strategy.We leveraged Hatch Duo's venture-building expertise to create Mooed.ai, a web-based AI-powered moodboarding tool for designers and creatives, but easy enough for anyone to use. Developed in collaboration with a specialized AI/ML software team, our internal design team shaped the UX/UI to ensure a seamless, user-friendly experience. With a focus on simplicity, accessibility, and visual intuitiveness, we tackled the common adoption challenges of complex AI tools.

Integrating More Control Over Moodboards

Mooed.ai streamlines moodboard creation by allowing users to input project parameters, generating high-quality, relevant boards in seconds. By aggregating multiple AI APIs into a cohesive, business-optimized package, it combines image recognition, pixel matching for color consistency, and GPT for storytelling—ensuring a visually and conceptually cohesive output. A seamless transition from generation to refinement empowers designers to focus more on ideation and creativity. Through GIFs, videos, and interactive visuals, we showcase its intuitive UI and efficient workflow, from concept initiation to final moodboard.

UX Beta Test Surveys and The Result

As a new AI software product, we prioritized simplicity and ease of use. The homepage features a clear, step-by-step tutorial, while a thoughtful color-coded and hierarchical layout enhances navigation. The user journey is intuitively structured from left to right, ensuring a seamless experience.

The Impact

The platform's rapid adoption, marked by over 1,000 sign-ups shortly after launch (Including the likes of Google, Amazon, Ford, and several notable design firms), reflects the pressing need it addresses within the design community. This achievement underscores the efficacy of mooed.ai in meeting the specific challenges faced by designers and validates our approach to developing a solution rooted in real-world use cases.

The Future of Mooed.ai

Mooed.ai’s success laid the foundation for Flo.ai, an evolving suite of AI-powered design tools that extend beyond moodboarding to streamline creative workflows. Designed by designers, for designers, Flo.ai was built with an intrinsic understanding of the creative process, ensuring every UX interaction and UI choice aligns with real-world needs.

Looking ahead, Mooed.ai will evolve further with the development of Node, a tool that bridges the gap between moodboarding and design execution. Node will enable users to seamlessly transition from curated moodboards to AI-assisted sketches, eventually expanding into other capabilities in the future. By integrating AI-driven mood generation to sketch generation, we aim to create a fully interconnected design ecosystem—one that transforms initial inspiration into tangible concepts faster and more intuitively than ever before.
